Can you help us identify this item?

We found this small hand-drawn booklet of cartoons in a carton with other miscellaneous materials. Can anyone help us figure out what it is so we can catalog it?

Those would be cross dressing friars. Love them!

Decades ago there was a comic trip with these characters. Here’s a description.

The central character is the little guy, Brother Juniper. It looks like it ran roughly 1960s to 1980s.

P.S. Clearly you drawings are a satirical riff on the comic strip. 🙂

I think the short monk is called “Brother Juniper.”

The monk on a donkey singing “Kansas City here I come” is no doubt offering a queer twist on a popular song released in 1952, “Kansas City” by Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller. The line that follows the one in the drawing is “They got a crazy way of lovin’ there, and I’m gonna get me some.” Given the context of the other drawings, we can no doubt guess what “crazy way of loving” the anonymous artist had in mind! Here’s the Fats Domino version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mypHZmXdU3o.
